HTML Tips & Tricks For Newbies

Written By Supriadi on Monday, April 30, 2012 | 9:21 PM

The Learning HTML basics section is aimed at newbie webmasters who have managed to build a website in one way or another, or are engaged in doing so.
You won't find a complete HTML tutorial as such here, but a series of articles with HTML code examples and explanations of several commonly used "HTML tricks" and other useful information that newbies often struggle to figure out on their own.
For a thorough beginners guide to HTML and Web site design, I recommend First Website Builder. Published by my Newbie Clubfriend, Joe Robson. It shows you simply and clearly how to create, write, design, automate, backup, promote and publish your own website on a budget. Nice package, nice price and a Free trial
Main topic headings are linked below:
  • HTML Codes for Special Symbols & Characters
A list of special characters and symbols with their corresponding HTML codes. Find the symbol you need, copy the HTML code in the column next to it, and paste that code into the HTML source of your web page..
  • Web Safe HTML Colour Codes
Chart showing all the 216 web safe html colour codes on one page for easy comparison, with their hexidecimal values written above for quick copy and paste.
  • Useful Javascript Code Examples
Handy snippets of free Javascript code examples for modifying text in the status bar display, preventing your site from being framed, protecting your email address, creating image rollovers with Javascript onMouseOver and more..
  • Cascading Style Sheets & CSS Codes
If you're not doing so, learn and employ CSS Codes on your websites, they are extremely useful and far more flexible than the presentational aspects of HTML.
  • Simple CSS Text template
Basic CSS statement with explanations of the CSS code to cut & paste into your own website's cascading style sheet and replace ALL the font tags in your HTML code.
  • Making Links Open In A New Window
Having links open in a new window is a simple strategy to reduce unnecessary loss of visitors by adding a small piece of HMTL code to the link..
  • HTML Frames, Tables & Page Layout
Some people like to use HTML frames to create the page layout for their websites. But why not use HTML tables with SSI instead?
  • Website Content & Fonts
Here we're not looking at what your words say, so much as how you present them to your visitor and what impact that presentation has.
